Wind, water, and birdsong from the Resonant Landscapes recordings, built on the idea of rivers as the earth’s circulatory system.
Eight-channel fixed-media electroacoustic work
Veins of the Earth is an eight-channel fixed media work built from field recordings made in South Dakota’s state parks with a Core Audio OctoMic ambisonic microphone. The recordings come out of the Resonant Landscapes project. This piece is separate from that installation, but it works toward the same thing: getting a listener’s attention onto the natural world.
The piece unfolds slowly through geophony, wind and water, with biophony like birdsong alongside it. The title comes from the idea of rivers as the earth’s circulatory system, a reference to how interconnected a natural system is. The work itself is non-representational, so listeners can take the soundscape on their own terms.
